Making a Difference!
ULAN provides various programs to assist union members and their families who have been victims of an accident, illness, layoff, disaster or any situation that has caused a hardship.
How does ULAN work?
When members of local unions and their families are referred to ULAN, they are interviewed by ULAN staff who will assess their needs. These needs are met by referrals to appropriate off-site agencies or through the direct assistance programs provided on-site by ULAN. All discussions held with the ULAN staff remain confidential. There is no fee for ULAN's assistance. To receive assistance from ULAN, union memebers must be referred by their union.
Basic Needs Solutions Program
Information and Referral
ULAN locates available resources, prescreens for eligibility and makes referrals to appropriate human and health services. ULAN works with other nonprofit organizations and government agencies to assist clients in this manner.
Case Management
Intake and client assessment provides the information necessary for ULAN to plan a course of action for the client, thus preventing further crisis and promoting self-sufficiency. This case management usually results in the coordination of ULAN programs, collaborative efforts with other agencies and advocacy on behalf of the client.
Emergency Assistance
Through ULAN's emergency assistance funds we can provide a safety net to prevent homelessness, hunger and utility service disconnections. We can also assist in obtaining health care needs, household items and funds to cover the costs of gainful employment.
Pantry
The on-site ULAN food bank provides non-perishable food and, when available, food vouchers. ULAN also distributes basic household and hygiene products.
Citizenship Assistance Program
ULAN's Citizen Assistance Program assists legal immigrants with the naturalization process and with filling out related documents regarding their immigration status. Explaining the process and eligibility requirements as well as helping the applicant study the oral and written test is a vital part of this program. Applicants are also referred to existing no-cost classes for study of English as a Second Language (ESL) and the US government.
Holiday Program
Holiday Food Baskets
ULAN's holiday food baskets provide special holiday foods for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Hundreds of baskets are distributed to needy familiers enabling them to prepare traditional holiday dinners even though they may be facing hard times.
Toy Box
During the winter season, ULAN invites parents who have utilized our programs to pick up new toys to give to their children for the holidays.
Community Services Program
